Island Batik Getaway Blog Hop: Flea Market Line

It is time again for another Island Batik blog hop where all the Ambassadors showcase the newly released fabric lines about to hit stores! These are always so much fun because the group is filled with some amazingly creative people.

My line, and one of the stops for today, is the Flea Market Line. This line is filled with fun prints and textures in primarily oranges, greens, and teals (one of my all time favorite color pallets).

For my quilt I drew inspiration from the fabric line name. You know when you go to a market, and in the distance you can see some stalls or shops with things that twinkle at you beckoning you in to search for treasures? I tried to draw on this when designing my quilt.

The first thing that came to mind was diamonds suspended on a dark background, like glass or jewelry would appear from afar as you are wandering through the market. There also needed to be a mixture of color to make them glisten like hidden treasure just waiting to be found.

Once the quilt was designed in EQ8 I picked out 15 of the fabrics from the line and turned them into 5 pairs of 3 to make my diamonds. Since a market is a mix of colors and textures I decided to arrange them in a scrappy manner over the quilt top. Doesn’t it just whisk you away to a bustling market in a foreign country? Can you hear the sounds, smell the smells, and feel the air as people bustle all around you looking for hidden treasure?

Overall Hidden Treasure has been one of my favorite quilts I’ve made. Not only are the fabrics beautiful, but the construction of this one was extremely enjoyable.

Thank you for taking the time to visit. Be sure to stop by and see all of the Ambassador quilts in the hop (links below). Also, don’t forget to enter the Island Batik Giveaway.
