Island Batik New Beginnings Blog Hop

Today is my day to showcase the Island Batik Blushing Blooms collection for the New Beginnings Blog Hop. Now when we were told the theme, I sighed so hard my mom heard me on the other side of the city. New Year's Resolutions, and New Year New Beginnings, and anything along those lines, that happens around the beginning of the year doesn't jive for me.

I can't wrap my head around it. For me personally, goals, change, improvement, etc. all happen constantly in our daily lives. Sometimes they happen slowly, without us realizing, and sometimes they are thrust upon us, and sometimes we decide to take them on. More often than not in my experience, they don't fit in a pretty little package on a day of our choosing. Now don't get me wrong, I don't judge those that find the practice helpful or enjoyable, but I hope I'm not alone in my feelings. What are your thoughts on the matter?

All that said, the fact remained that I had this absolutely beautiful line of fabric I needed to make something with. After much scouring of YouTube I found the Man Sewing video tutorial for his Burst Block and that was that....or was it. After much auditioning, and a goal to use something other than a neutral for the background, I decided on the dark purple for the background.

Accurate 10" squares were cut (80 total to be exact), templates were made, and I set to making the block with a spring in my step. It wasn't until I sewed on the final background piece that there was an issue. I had come up just short to make the 10" unfinished block. Somewhere my cutting was off, but I tried again. 4 time I had the same issue, so I shelved the idea and worked toward something else because I needed to finish something to post.

I do plan on going back and trying it again. Maybe I will purchase they tool Missouri Star sells for that block, but in this instance I didn't have time to wait around for it to arrive. Into EQ7's block library I went. Very quickly I found something I liked and thought would work.

More templates and fabric cut and I was off. After much rearranging of the colored pieces, and not quite finding any way I really like, I just sewed what I had. It was a fun design to piece, and I can say with confidence that I have gotten pretty good at Y-seams. It is very outside my normal style choices and was fun to make. The finished top measures 24" square.

Thank you for taking the time to read. If you haven't already I highly recommend you take a look that the other Ambassador's beautiful creations. Also, don't forget to enter the giveaways below. I will be giving away some 10" precut squares from the Blushing Blooms Collection and Island Batik is giving away a Batik Bundle.
