What a Hoot: Blogger's Quilt Festival

My second entry in the Fall 2015 Blogger's Quilt Festival, in the Modern Quilt Category, on Amy's Creative Side is my What a Hoot quilt (Playful Pachyderm is my first). Those of you that follow my blog regularly, please bare with me. Since I've already blogged about this quilt twice I'm going to just do a quick run down and show you some pictures.

What a Hoot was created for a close friend's baby girl. Her nursery colors are yellow and grey, and the theme was owls. My friend is a math teacher and so I decided to make a more modern design and letting the fabric do all the work. My original quilt had slightly different block sizes, but I adjusted them so I could get them all out of fat quarters.

The quilting was an all over design of circles where the radius started at 6" and reduced by 1" as they got smaller. They were all marked on the quilt using a 12" Roll N Ruler and they were stitched using a walking foot. During basting, marking, and quilting I had a couple of helpers.

The quilting in the owl was a mix of stitch in the ditch, a pre-programmed stitch in my machine for the body, and free motion in the wings.

I am currently making it again in pink, lime green, and black & white fabrics. If you would like to know more about this quilt you can read about it here and here
