Center Block Instructions

Preparation

This is the final block for this table topper. Although there is only one block to make it is the most advanced of the 3 blocks. Take your time and pin well during assembly.

Supplies

  • Gallon Ziplock Bags with cut pieces
  • Basic Cutting Supplies
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
  • Rotating cutting mat highly recommended but not required.

Cutting Instructions:

Fabric 1:

  • Cut 2 - 2" x 39" strips for the outer border.
  • Cut 2 - 2" x 42" strips for the outer border***

***If your fabric isn't quite 42" you will have to piece these. Before cutting a 3rd strip I recommend checking if you have enough scraps left over from previous cutting steps.

Fabric 2 (Red):

  • Cut 2 - 3/4" x 38 1/2" strips for the middle accent border.
  • Cut 2 - 3/4" x 39" strips for the middle accent border.

Fabric 3 (Light/Medium Green):

  • Cut 2 - 1 1/2" x 36 1/2" strips for the inner border.
  • Cut 2 - 1 1/2" x 38 1/2" strips for the inner border.

Sewing Instructions:

  • Take 1 "A" square and 1 "F" triangle and sew together as pictured.
  • Press toward the triangle.
  • Make 4 of these units.

  • Take 1 "F" triangle and attach it to the unit just sewn as pictured.
  • Press toward the triangle.
  • Make 4 of these units.

  • Sew together 1 "D" triangle to 1 of the units that were just made as pictured.
  • Press toward the triangle.
  • The finished unit should measure approximately 4 1/2" square. If you are only a few threads off I would not recommend trimming it down.
  • Make 4 of these units.

  • Sew together 1 "B" triangle and 1 "G" triangle as pictured.
  • Press toward the darker triangle.
  • Make 4 of these units.

  • Sew 1 "E" triangle to 1 of the units just made as pictured.
  • Press toward the large triangle.
  • The finished unit should measure approximately 4 1/2" square. If you are only a few threads off I would not recommend trimming it down.
  • Make 4 of these units.

  • Sew 2 of the "H" triangles to opposite sides of the "C" square. Make sure to line up the center of the triangle side with the center of the square.
  • Press toward the triangles.

  • Sew 2 more "H" triangles on the 2 remaining sides of the square.  
  • Press toward the triangles.
  • The finished unit should measure approximately 4 1/2" square. If you are only a few threads off I would not recommend trimming it down.

  • Sew the units into strips as pictured.
  • Press outward for the outer strips.
  • Press inward (toward the center square) for the inner strip.

  • Sew the strips together to make the Center Block.
  • Press toward the inner strip.
