You will need the following supplies for this project.
- Marking Pencil
- Neutral Thread for Piecing
- Gallon Ziploc Bags for organization
- Sandwich size bags for organization
- Basic Cutting Supplies
- Basic Sewing Supplies
The below yardage includes everything you will need for top assembly, including borders. If you would like your borders to be in different fabrics from the center you will only need Fat Quarters of Fabrics 1,2, & 3. This BOM is scrap friendly.
- Fabric 1 (Dark Green) - 5/8 yard
- Fabric 2 (Medium Light/Medium Green) - 5/8 yard**
- Fabric 3 (Medium Red) - 1/2 yard
- Fabric 4 (Background) - 1 yard***
**Fabric 2 yardage was increased to 5/8 yard because if the fabric isn't at least 42" you are cutting it really close.
***Fabric 4 yardage has been corrected to 1 yard from 3/4 yard. The original yardage was about 1/2" shy. 7/8 yard would work, but I'm recommending 1 yard to allow for possible cutting errors.
A Note on Fabric Selection
When selecting your fabric, make sure to pay close attention to the value of your fabrics. It is important to follow the color value recommendations in the yardage section above. This is especially true if you intend to use scraps to assemble the top. If you would like a more detailed explanation of determining the value of your fabrics check out our color theory post.
This top also lends itself well to printed fabrics. Directional fabrics such as plaids should work fine, but stripes might not work very well.
