Creative Spaces Blog Hop: Week 3

Welcome to week 3 of the Creative Spaces Hop. This week we are tackling organization tips. I am an organized mess, with an emphasis on the mess part. Organization isn't my strong suit, but I do have a couple of tidbits that have really helped me recently.

Remove items that don't belong in your creative space and store them somewhere else. This one may seem obvious, but it wasn't until my friend was helping me jump start my organization that this really clicked. The majority of the office supplies, batteries, thank you notes, and much more were moved out of my room and into our household storage which was then labeled. I also limited my office supplies to one cubby in my room.

The next tip I have is to keep items close to where they are used. I have a small set of drawers with marking utensils, thread snips & seam rippers, and needles on my sewing table. Also, I have 2 sets of drawers in my cubbies that are right by my cutting table. Those have my general tools, rotary cutters, glue, tools, machine quilting supplies, and other various small things that don't fit in anywhere else.

My last tip is another one some might think is obvious, but it is something I've struggled with for years, and has only really clicked for me. Every ounce of space does not have to be used. If you have a drawer that you have slated for tools, even if it is mostly empty, keep only tools there. This helps to cut down on the amount of "junk" or varied drawers and make it easier to find some of those things you don't use as often.
