Lately I have been suffering from a severe case of writer’s block when it comes to blogging. I sit down and stare at the screen, and stare, and stare, and stare. I want to be more active on the blog so I’m going to show a couple of small things I worked on, current news, and eventually put up posts about the mini swaps I’ve been participating in.
Let’s start out with the news before we get to the pretty pictures and fun quilty stuff. Next week Monday I will be posting my Island Batik Ambassador project for October. The them is Pumpkin Fest and we were instructed to make something showcasing pumpkins or with the colors of the pumpkin patch. Of course, they sent us beautiful, rich, fall colored fabrics to use. Can’t wait to show you my creation.
This upcoming weekend is International Quilt Market, and Frequency will be on display in the Island Batik booth. While I won’t get to see it myself, I will be getting pictures from someone who will be there. Can’t wait to share those pictures. I’m working hard to finalize the pattern so it can be listed for sale in the first half of November. I also have a few pattern tester quilts to share.
From November 10th-12th one of our Island Batik Ambassadors is co-hosting the Connections Quilt Festival in Nashua, NH and I will have some quilts in the show. If you are in the area it will be worth stopping on by to see all the beautiful quilts.
Back in September I went to the SewPro Convention in Chicago, and met a lot of wonderful people. A group of us are going to be participating in a SewPro Stars Blog Hop from November 14th-18th.
Since next year is fast approaching I have been working on the sample for the 2017 Mystery Quilt Along. In honor of the 3rd year there will be 3 different size options. It will continue to be a free event and dates and more details should come closer to the end of the year. Like last time, the 2016 Mystery will stay up till a few weeks before the 2017 event starts, and I will be giving ample notice before taking it down.
Making All the Pretty Things
Now to the fun stuff and pretty pictures. At the end of September, being stuck on multiple big projects I decided to take a break and make a Lillyella Butterfly Charm Block. Her free pattern has 3 adorable butterflies and I chose to make Cricket into a mug rug for a coworker who loves purple. All the fabrics are from my Island Batik scrap bin and it was quilted and pieced with Aurifil 50wt thread.
Making bags is on my sewing bucket list, but while I’ve purchased multiple bag patterns, and started a couple, none have ever reached completion. Am I the only one that does this? Somehow all the requirements for things like zippers, hardware, interfacing make my head spin and I rarely get very far with them.
When I ran across the Sweatpea Pod Pattern by Lazy Girl Designs I thought it would be a great way to get my feet wet with a simple bag like project.
I made my first 2 pods with 10” squares from the Island Batik Drizzle line. These were leftovers from Frequency. The instructions were good and I was able to throw them both together in a couple hours while my son napped.
Of course, I couldn’t just stop after the first 2 and had to make a couple more. These two yellow and black ones were meant for my mom, but they were confiscated by my son. They just happen to be the perfect size to hold his mini trains and shove in my purse when we go out. Oh well, guess I will have to make more. I also picked up her Becca Bag Pattern and hope to make that next.
Thank you for taking the time to visit and read. Do you have any sewing/quilting items you really struggle with?
