This week's post is an update on What a Hoot post and some information on upcoming events.
Mystery Quilt Along and Future Events
This week is an exciting one for the Mystery Quilt Along. We are done with blocks and will be assembling the top. You will start to see you quilts come together! There are some exciting events in the works. There is a Christmas table topper planned for September to November (so it can be ready for Christmas!) and a Block of the Month planned for 2016.
The table topper will be ran as a normal quilt along. The image of the top will be available for viewing along with the yardage requirements. Participants will receive instructions for 1 block a month for a total of 3 blocks. It will be a free event, but I will be requesting that those participating take the time to donate at least $5 to a charity of their choice. Please stay tuned for more details.
Finished What a Hoot
What a Hoot is now done and just needs a label. In the body of the quilt I quilted circles. All circles were marked using a 12" Roll n Ruler. The largest circle is a 12" diameter and the diameter reduces by 2" each time.
The owl applique had stitching around the outside, as well as the eyes, beak, wings, and feet. Inside the owl body I used a preset stitch on my machine. The wings were my first ever attempt at Free Motion Quilting.
A grey chevron print was used as the back.
After auditioning a few binding choices I decided on a darker fabric that pulled all the colors together.
