Clues 1 & 2

There will be instructions for 2 different finished sizes, without borders, offered for this quilt. They are approximately 79" x 90 1/2" and 59 1/2" x 68".

4 different fabrics are required to make this quilt:

  • Fabric 1 - Dark Value
  • Fabric 2 - A medium value in the same color family as the dark (Coordinate)
  • Fabric 3 - A medium value in a different color family as the dark & other medium (Accent)
  • Fabric 4 - Light Value

Note – All yardage includes at least 9" to account for shrinkage and potential errors. Borders not included in below yardageSee section on borders for additional yardage suggestions.

59 1/2" x 68" Fabric:

  • Fabric 1 (Dark) – 2 1/4 yards
  • Fabric 2 (Medium Coordinate) – 2 yards
  • Fabric 3 (Medium Accent) – 3/4 yards
  • Fabric 4 (Light ) – 1 7/8 yards

79" x 90 1/2" Fabric:

Desert Bloom Quilting's Fabrics

Thanks to Island Batik sponsoring a quilt, I will be making 2 versions of this quilt. The first shown below is the Island Batik Version and it will be the smaller size. The second version I will be doing in the larger size.

Printable clues have swatch chart so you can easily keep track of your fabrics throughout the project.

Borders:

I will be adding borders to my samples in the sizes outlined below. The yardage to complete that size border is supplied below. Smaller size quilt info will be contained in brackets next to the larger size. These are just suggestions and you may want to do something different so keep that in mind when purchasing your fabric.

  • Fabric 3 Inner Border 1" finished; 3/8 yard additional fabric {3/4" finished; 1/4 yard additional fabric}.
  • Fabric 1 Accent Border 2" finished; 5/8 yard additional fabric {1 1/2" finished; 1/2 yard additional fabric}.
  • Fabric 2 Outer Border 6" finished; 1 7/8 yard additional fabric {4 1/2" finished; 1 yard additional fabric}

Note - Purchasing additional yardage in the largest cut for each fabric you might like to have as borders would give you the flexibility to choose once your quilt is complete.

Clue 2 - Cutting Instruction

  • All fabric yardage based off of 40" wide fabric.
  • Cut all strips WOF (Width of Fabric) before cutting them down into smaller pieces.
  • There are 2 sets of cutting instructions. Select the one for the size of quilt being constructed.
